Classes Taught:
Full Great Starts Birth Series
Newborn Care

I have a Bachelors of Social Work from James Madison University and have worked in the field of mental health, immigration, youth and families.  Before moving to Seattle in 2011, I was living and working as an ESL instructor/entrepreneur in Chile for 9 years and in New Brunswick, Canada.  Along the way, I learned to speak Spanish, met my husband and had our son.  Creating a family and transitioning to parenthood was a larger transformation than I ever expected and lead me to the path I am on today as a birth doula and childbirth educator with Great Starts.  I was trained as a birth doula in April 2013 at the Simkin Center and I am pending DONA certification.

Any trans-formative life event goes more smoothly when you have support, community and information to make the best choices for you.  As an educator, I hope to bring evidence based information to families to help them find the path that best suits their need and help create a community of parents where families can find support in the sometimes tumultuous weeks and months of new parenthood.

My husband and I were married in 2007 in the beautiful Chilean rain forest.  Our first son was born in Canada and we are currently awaiting the birth of our daughter in June 2014.  As a family we love simple pleasures like walking in the woods, cooking and eating together.

Most important thing for families to take away from class:
You can do this!  You have done hard things before labor/birth/parenting and you can do this too!  We are here to support you in finding the information, resources and support you need to make this journey the best it can be in your specific circumstances.  I encourage you to get your questions answered in class and with health care providers, find out your options and speak up for what you want.

What I hope to be doing in 5 years:
Enjoying a balanced life between family, working as an educator and new pursuits whatever those might be!
